Code of Conduct 

AWC Antwerp

1. Purpose and Scope

This Code of Conduct sets out the principles, values, and behavioral expectations for everyone involved in AWC Antwerp, including board members, members, participants, partners, and visitors. The aim is to create a safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for all.

This Code applies to all activities organised or represented by AWC Antwerp, whether in person, online, or in collaboration with external partners.

2. Core Values

AWC Antwerp is guided by the following values:

      • Respect: we treat everyone with dignity, regardless of background, identity, beliefs, or life experiences.
      • Safety: we actively work to create emotionally and physically safe spaces.
      • Inclusivity: we welcome diversity and do not tolerate discrimination or exclusion.
      • Integrity: we act honestly, transparently, and responsibly.
      • Care and Responsibility: we look out for one another and take responsibility for our actions.

3. Expected Behavior

All members of AWC Antwerp are expected to:

      • Communicate respectfully and listen to others without judgement.
      • Respect personal boundaries, consent, and privacy at all times.
      • Act in ways that support trust, cooperation, and mutual understanding.
      • Follow applicable laws, regulations, and organisational policies.
      • Use inclusive and non‑discriminatory language.

4. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are not tolerated within AWC Antwerp:

      • Any form of harassment, intimidation, bullying, or verbal abuse.
      • Discrimination based on gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or socio‑economic background.
      • Sexual harassment, sexual violence, or any form of unwanted sexual attention.
      • Physical violence or threats of violence.
      • Abuse of power, authority, or trust.
      • Sharing confidential or personal information without consent.
      • Attending activities under the influence of substances in a way that compromises safety.

5. Safeguarding and Boundaries

AWC Antwerp is committed to safeguarding all participants, especially those who may be vulnerable.

    • Personal boundaries must always be respected.
    • Any concerns about safety, boundary violations, or misconduct must be taken seriously.

6. Reporting Concerns and Confidential Contact 

Concerns should be reported directly to the AWC Antwerp Board.

      • Reports can be made to any board member not involved in the situation
      • If the concern involves a board member, it should be raised with another board member or the full board
      • If needed, AWC Antwerp may seek guidance from an external, neutral advisor.

The Board commits to:

      • Handling all concerns promptly, fairly, and with discretion
      • Listening to all parties involved
      • Taking appropriate steps based on the seriousness of the situation
      • Protecting confidentiality as much as possible

A Person of Confidentiality (Vertrouwenspersoon) may be appointed if deemed necessary. 

7. Consequences of Violations

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate action, including:

      • A warning or mediation
      • Temporary suspension from activities
      • Termination of involvement with AWC Antwerp
      • Referral to external authorities when legally required

8. Responsibility and Commitment

All individuals involved with AWC Antwerp are expected to read, understand, and adhere to this Code of Conduct. By participating in AWC Antwerp activities, everyone agrees to uphold these standards and contribute to a respectful and safe community.


This Code of Conduct may be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
